IGCN, IBCSD, and IIA Promote Green MSMEs Through Energy Efficiency Training

Jakarta, 30 September 2025 – The UN Global Compact Network Indonesia (IGCN), together with the Indonesia Business Council for Sustainable Development (IBCSD) and the Indonesia Impact Alliance (IIA), held a workshop titled “Building Green MSMEs: Energy Efficiency for a Sustainable Future” at JS Luwansa, Jakarta.

The event was attended by 48 participants, including MSME entrepreneurs, supply chain partners of IBCSD members, as well as networks from IIA and IGCN, both in-person and online.

The workshop aimed to raise awareness and enhance the capacity of MSME actors in managing their business energy consumption, while also introducing affordable and relevant energy-efficient technologies and electrification solutions. Through these efforts, MSMEs are expected to reduce operational costs, increase productivity, strengthen competitiveness, and contribute to Indonesia’s inclusive and just energy transition agenda.

In her remarks, Indah Budiani, Executive Director of IBCSD, stated,

“MSMEs are not only the backbone of the economy but also key players in the energy transition agenda. Through energy efficiency, MSMEs can reduce operational costs in the long term, enhance competitiveness, and contribute to Indonesia’s net-zero targets. IBCSD aims to encourage more green MSMEs that are ready to lower emissions and strengthen their position within national and global supply chains.”

Participants received fundamental training from IBCSD Trainers on topics such as energy transition and its impact on MSMEs, simple energy audit practices, and the use of energy-efficient technologies such as small-scale solar panels, smart controls, and app-based monitoring systems. The event also featured a sharing session from Leastric, which presented concrete steps taken by companies and MSMEs to implement sustainable business practices across their supply chains.

Atika Benedikta, Executive Director of Indonesia Impact Alliance, noted,

“MSMEs need to start paying attention to their commitment to green practices. Investor demand for green MSMEs continues to rise, but a funding gap of USD 50.8 million remains, partly due to the low readiness of MSMEs to meet sustainability or green practice standards.”

Meanwhile, Andi Rahim, Secretary General & Interim Executive Director of UN Global Compact Network Indonesia, emphasized,

“MSMEs are a driving force for achieving the SDGs. Through this workshop, we aim to strengthen their capacity to better integrate sustainability principles into their operations.”

The workshop concluded with an interactive training session featuring a mini energy audit and a simulation exercise on calculating potential energy savings, enabling participants to immediately apply energy-saving measures in their respective businesses.

Through this initiative, IBCSD, IIA, and IGCN hope that more MSMEs will adopt energy efficiency and green technologies, thereby making a tangible contribution to Indonesia’s inclusive and equitable energy transition agenda.
